Every figure on this page was counted from BALANZI's own Shopify orders (a full export of every order, 4 January 2021 to 13 September 2026) and the reviews published on balanzi.com. The count sits next to each percentage so you can check the arithmetic, and the method is at the end. Quote any line with its date. When a figure changes, the date changes with it.

Shares are of the 53,763 paid orders that carry a shipping country, counted 13 September 2026.
8mm or 12mm: which width do men choose?
12mm, by two to one. Of the 7,045 single chains sold from 1 January 2025 to 12 September 2026, 65.4% were 12mm and 34.6% were 8mm. Among men buying their first BALANZI chain the lean is the same: 67.0% chose 12mm (6,241 first-order chains). Counting the chain inside each chain-and-bracelet set as well, 12mm takes 68.2% of 13,108 chains.
| Width | Single chains | Share of single | First chains | Share of first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8mm | 2,436 | 34.6% | 2,060 | 33.0% |
| 12mm | 4,609 | 65.4% | 4,181 | 67.0% |
The window starts in January 2025 because that is the first full period in which both widths and all four lengths were on sale together; the 8mm launched in 2023 and the 26-inch length in 2026. What each width weighs and how it reads on a neck is in the size guide.
What length do most men choose?
22 inches. 42.0% of the 7,044 single chains sold from 1 January 2025 to 12 September 2026 were 22 inches. 20 and 24 inches split the rest almost evenly, 27.3% each, and 26 inches is 3.5%. The narrower chain is bought at 22 inches more often (47.6% of 8mm chains against 39.0% of 12mm), and the wider chain is bought at 20 inches more often (29.3% against 23.6%).
| Length | All chains | Share | 8mm | 12mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 inches | 1,922 | 27.3% | 23.6% | 29.3% |
| 22 inches | 2,956 | 42.0% | 47.6% | 39.0% |
| 24 inches | 1,922 | 27.3% | 25.4% | 28.3% |
| 26 inches | 244 | 3.5% | 3.4% | 3.5% |
Do men go longer or shorter when they exchange a chain?
Longer, 76.9% of the time. Of the 475 chains re-shipped to an existing customer where both the first chain and the replacement carry a length, 250 were the same length (a replacement or a lost parcel), 173 were longer and 52 were shorter. Among the 225 that changed length, 76.9% went up. This is the number behind the size guide's rule: between two lengths, take the longer one.
Gold or silver?
Gold, 89.8% of chains sold from 1 January 2025 to 12 September 2026 (6,328 gold, 717 silver). The share has moved: gold was 60.1% of chains in 2021 and 92.2% in 2026.
| Year | Gold | Silver | Gold share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 1,104 | 734 | 60.1% |
| 2022 | 1,162 | 834 | 58.2% |
| 2023 | 977 | 340 | 74.2% |
| 2024 | 2,770 | 404 | 87.3% |
| 2025 | 3,403 | 471 | 87.8% |
| 2026 (to 13 Sep) | 2,926 | 246 | 92.2% |
How many men add the bracelet?
Half. 52.0% of the 21,589 orders containing a chain since 2020 also contain the matching bracelet, most of them as a chain-and-bracelet set. Among men who bought a chain on its own, 24.9% added a bracelet to the same order (3,525 of 14,175).
Bracelet length is less varied than chain length: 77.5% of the 12,148 8mm bracelets with a length were 7.5 inches, 15.0% were 8.5 inches and 7.5% were 8 inches.
How often is a chain refunded or re-shipped?
2.3% of orders were refunded in full (1,240 of 55,016 orders placed, 4 January 2021 to 13 September 2026). BALANZI's guarantee returns the money and does not ask for the chain back, so there is no return rate to report; a refund is the whole event.
5.1% of chains were re-shipped at no charge to an existing customer (1,172 of 23,144 8mm and 12mm chains paid for, single and in sets). That figure covers three things the order data does not separate: a size exchange, a replacement under the guarantee, and a parcel that never arrived and was sent again. Free pieces sent to people with no earlier order are not in it.
When do men buy chains?
November, then December, then June. Across the five full years 2021 to 2025 (47,400 orders), November carried 10.1% of orders, December 9.6%, June 9.3% and March 9.0%. February is the quietest month at 6.1%. An even year would give every month 8.3%.

Method
Source. A complete export of the store's orders from Shopify, 4 January 2021 to 13 September 2026: every order and every line on it. Reviews are the full set published on balanzi.com through the review platform, 12 October 2026.
Paid order. Not a test, not cancelled, paid or partly refunded, total above zero. Orders refunded in full are counted separately (1,240); orders placed is the two added together. Customer. A distinct customer account on a paid order. Single chain. The Cuban chain products themselves, including a chain sold with a pendant; a chain inside a chain-and-bracelet set is counted only where the text says so. Length. The length option on the order; the 12mm's earlier 19.5-inch and 50 cm options are counted as 20 inches. Re-ship. A zero-value order containing a chain, placed by a customer with an earlier paid order. Chain window. 1 January 2025 to 12 September 2026, the first period in which both widths and all four lengths were on sale together.
Percentages are calculated from the counts shown and rounded to one decimal; a count is never rounded to make a sentence read better. If a figure here disagrees with another BALANZI page, the more recent date is the right one, and the older page is due a recount.
